NSAPB Makes Changes

The fall AGM of the NSAPB produced a number of changes in the organization. The AGM adopted a set of By-Laws that will govern the NSAPB going forward. Two key provisions in the By-Laws are the creation of an Associate Membership and the change in Board membership from five to seven members. Board members must be on their Municipal Police Board.

The Associate Memebrship is open  to RCMP Police Advisory Boards as well as other police and justice groups.

The seven members elected at the AGM to the Board were: Deputy Mayor David Walker (Bridgewater), Concillor Jack Lewis (New Glasgow), Councillor Derek Mombourquette (CBRM), Councillor Nola Folker-Hill (Kentville), Citizen Appointee Ear Gosse (HRM), Deputy Mayor Gerald Jones (Westville), Councillor Greg MacArthur (Truro)

The Executive consists of: President/Treasurer - Deputy Mayor David Walker, Vice-President - Councillor Jack Lewis, Secretary - Councillor Derek Mombourquette

WEBSITE ISSUES
The NSAPB website has been up for quite a while. The design of the site went well and we are pleased with its' appearance. The management of information on the site has presented problems that we are working to deal with. It is our goal to have the site reflect accurate and current information by January 1 (sooner if possible). I will not waste time apologizing for our shortcomings. Instead I will move on with fixing the weaknesses.

NSCPA/NSAPB FALL CONFERENCE SEPT. 24 - 26
The Annual NSCPA/NSAPB Joint Conference is in the final planing stages. The Conference will be held in Yarmouth, September 24 - 26, 2008 at the Rodd's Grand Hotel. The focus of this year's Conference will be Conducted Energy Devices (CED's) and N-Gen, the challenges that the new generation of recruits bring to our traditional ways of doing business. The Conference gets underway September 24th with the Annual Shirlen Seamone Golf Tournament. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and network with people from the policing/justice community.  Details on the Conference will be posted shortly. Go to the Documents section and in the Conference category open NSCPA/NSAPB 2008 Conference. As well each  Board should be receiving a Conference package in the next week or so. Check with your Board Chair or Board Secretary if you do not hear anything in the next two weeks. We look forward to seeing many of you in Yarmouth.
